Fitz Intermediate Computer Science Academy Showcases Student Success

Fitz Intermediate Computer Science Academy, the second computer science immersion academy in the Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD), hosted a showcase event on January 16 to celebrate student success with the new technology-infused curriculum.

Fourteen Honored as 2020 GGUSD Athletes and Coaches of Character

The Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) Board of Education recognized Athletes and Coaches of Character from each of the district’s seven comprehensive high schools at the January 21 Board of Education meeting. The coaches and student athletes represent a wide variety of sports and help develop and enrich GGUSD athletic programs by modeling respect, teamwork, and a winning attitude.

GGUSD Names Bell Intermediate Student Champion of District Spelling Bee

Bell Intermediate School eighth grader Brandon Tran once again earned the title of champion of the district’s 33rd Annual Spelling Bee for seventh and eighth grade students.  The event was held January 15 at the Edgar District Meeting Center.

GGUSD’s Latinos Unidos Conference Prepares Young Leaders for Success

The seventh annual Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) Latino Unidos Conference was held January 11 on the campus of California State University, Fullerton with more than 300 students in attendance. The conference is organized by district-level Latinos Unidos student board members to provide leadership training and help students prepare for academic, personal, and lifelong success.

Nine GGUSD Schools Earn Prestigious California Distinguished School Award

Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) was well represented in the 2020 California Distinguished Schools Program, which was announced by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond on December 18, 2019. GGUSD placed more schools on the list than any other school district in Orange County with Allen, Cook, Crosby, Excelsior, Hazard, Lawrence, Morningside, Peters, and Stanley elementary schools all receiving the recognition. Schools are recognized for achieving exceptional student performance for two consecutive school years or closing the achievement gap between two school years.

Ten GGUSD Schools Earn Top Awards for PBIS

Ten schools in the Garden Grove Unified School District received awards for excellence in implementing PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports). PBIS helps schools to encourage more positive student behavior, increase student performance and improve school climate. The awards from the California PBIS Coalition recognizes schools that are among the best in applying PBIS strategies to promote positive school climate and positive student behavior.
