Join the Human Relations Task Force

Tuesday, Feb 11 at 8:29 AM

Earlier this year, the Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) partnered with OC Human Relations to launch a Human Relations Task Force (HRTF).  The goal of the Task Force is to develop a set of recommendations aimed at fostering a positive culture and climate at all schools, including responding to hate and bias. OC Human Relations is a non-profit leader that works to bring together diverse people to solve today’s critical human relations issues. Their organization has expertise in addressing discrimination and empowering school districts to affect positive change. OC Human Relations is facilitating the work of the Human Relations Task Force in GGUSD.

GGUSD issued a call to action to recruit students, parents, staff, and community members to serve on the Human Relations Task Force. The first meeting was held Thursday, January 9 in the cafeteria at Bolsa Grande High School and 28 people attended.

At the meeting, the district provided updates about its Choose Wellness campaign as well as the district’s action plan to address hate and bias on school campuses.  OC Human Relations representatives discussed the goals of the HRTF and the process used in the work ahead. OC Human Relations representatives facilitated the collection of input from attendees about the HRTF and presented an application for those interested in committing to the work.

It is our desire that the work of the HRTF reflects the needs of our diverse communities. GGUSD and OC Human Relations are urging additional students, families, employees, and community members to volunteer to serve on the HRTF. If you’re interested, please sign up to attend our next meeting on Thursday, February 27 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. in the district office annex building, 10331 Stanford Avenue.   Click here to confirm your attendance.

The meeting on February 27 will be a recap of the initial meeting held on January 9.  The meeting is intended to recruit additional members to serve on the HRTF and to conduct a second round of data collection about these important topics of ensuring GGUSD schools have an effective plan in place to stop hate and bias in its tracks, and to promote a positive and inclusive environment for all.
