GGUSD Board of Education Recognizes Simon Scholars

At its September 20th meeting, the Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) Board of Education recognized 30 students from Garden Grove, Los Amigos, and Rancho Alamitos high schools who were named Class of 2024 Simon Scholars for their commitment to academic success and community service.

The Simon Family Foundation provides $16,000 college scholarships to students who face challenging personal and economic circumstances. The program begins prior to students’ junior year and provides students with mentoring and support to ensure a successful road to college as well as resources like leadership training, a personal laptop, college application assistance and SAT preparation.    

“Our longstanding partnership with the Simon Family Foundation has made a significant impact in the lives of our students by providing a strong system of support to ensure they have success in high school, college, and beyond,” said Board of Education Vice President Lan Nguyen.

Simon Scholars from Garden Grove High School include Jacob Alvarado, Melissa Chavez, Emily Ha, Ngan Ha, Ethan Nguyen, Lan Nguyen, Mikey Nguyen, Kenneth Rodriguez, Harrison Tran, and Kenny Vu. Los Amigos Simon Scholars include Jenny Nguyen, Stephanie Heredia, Angel Govea, Andrew Pham, Lina Tran, Oscar Sanchez, Johnathan Ruiz, Miranda Martinez, Nhi Tran, Phillip Castro, and Minh Le. Rancho Alamitos Simon Scholars include Johana Guzman-Perez, Kelly Ha, Jolene Ho, Vorny Huynh, Alex Lam-Tang, Erik Mauricio, Brenda Mendoza, Diana Nguyen and Thi Nguyen.
