Elementary General Music
All students in Garden Grove Unified School District (grades TK-12) receive general and vocal music instruction as part of their school week. Students develop skills in listening, analyzing, and performing music in a curriculum that is aligned to the California State Visual and Performing Arts standards.
Activities in music classes include playing percussion instruments, dance and movement, guided analytical listening, and plenty of singing. Lessons frequently integrate the curriculum by reinforcing language arts, math, science, and social studies.
A proud component of our Elementary music programs are the school chorus groups. Open to upper graders, these groups rehearse once a week and perform twice a year. They also often have opportunities to share their talents outside of school at special events and festivals.
A new component of our general music program is the classroom recorder program. All 4th graders and select 5th and 6th grade classes learn many of the fundamentals of music theory and performance by way of the recorder, which is a type of flute.
Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.
